Clarity AI Supports Visalia in Enhancing Sustainability Practices for Its Green Bond Program with a Tailored ESG Risk Score
- With a score of 81 from Clarity AI, Visalia has achieved the highest ESG score among major utilities in Spain and Portugal
- This ESG Risk Score enabled Visalia to issue a new tranche of €4.2 million in green bonds, attracting social and environmental impact investors
Madrid, January 20, 2025 – Clarity AI, the leading global sustainability tech company, announced that Visalia, a Spanish company committed to responsible energy practices, has selected its services to conduct a comprehensive ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) assessment.
This assessment supports Visalia’s €100 million, 5-year green bond issuance program on the MARF. As part of this framework, Solventis serves as the registered advisor, underwriter, and global placement entity; CaixaBank acts as the paying agent; Araoz & Rueda as the legal advisor; KPMG as the financial advisor; and Ethifinance is responsible for evaluating the Green Financing Framework and issuing the Second Party Opinion.
Clarity AI has developed an ESG risk score powered by advanced analytics, offering a clear, data-driven view of environmental, social, and governance sustainability. This tool helps mid-sized companies in Spain and other markets enhance their sustainability profiles and build stronger connections with investors. As of January 2025, Visalia Energía SL achieved an ESG risk score of 81 out of 100 (within Clarity AI’s ‘All Companies’ universe), providing investors with valuable insights into its sustainability strategy and performance.
“We are excited to support Visalia Energia SL on this pivotal moment for the company. Our ESG Risk Score not only highlights the company’s commitment to sustainability but also identifies areas for improvement and opportunity, ultimately fostering a more responsible investment landscape.”
Esther Albert, Strategy Manager at Clarity AI
Clarity AI’s methodology involves a thorough assessment of Visalia’s sustainability practices based on established industry frameworks, including SASB, GRI, and SFDR PAIs. This process results in an unbiased ESG Risk Score that reflects both strengths and areas for growth. Furthermore, the platform allows for seamless updates, ensuring the score is always based on the most current data available.
Moreover, this initiative offers Visalia Energia SL access to a vast network of over 200 investors who utilize Clarity AI for portfolio analysis and reporting. Companies will benefit from unlimited benchmarking against a universe of over 35,000 peers in the ESG space, gaining valuable insights into their competitive positioning.
On December 20, Visalia issued a second tranche of €4.2 million as part of its €100 million green notes program to finance its Proximity Renewable Communities. This follows the placement of the first €20 million tranche. The second tranche saw strong participation from entities and investment funds with a dedicated focus on social and environmental sustainability.
“At Visalia, we’ve demonstrated that it’s possible to be profitable while helping modest families and SMEs access clean, renewable energy at competitive prices, without requiring them to invest a single euro. Through our social responsibility policy, we go even further by supporting hundreds of vulnerable families experiencing energy poverty. This is done in coordination with Fundación Energía Responsable, where Visalia is a founding trustee. The foundation was recognized in 2024 as the best social initiative in the energy sector.”
Pablo Abejas, CEO of Visalia
In recent weeks, Visalia has reported several significant updates to the MARF, including the appointment of three female directors, aligning with its gender diversity policy for the board of directors.
To address ESG risks effectively, Visalia has designated a dedicated seat for ESG management on its board, underscoring the importance of its ESG strategy. Pepi Jiménez, Visalia’s ESG and Human Resources Director, has been appointed as a board member to take on this role.
